Jharkhand ranked 2nd most poor state in India. Despite, it is best known for its rich mineral resources.

Some major concerns:

1. Poverty: Poverty is widespread in Jharkhand, as 39.1% of the total population and 51.6% rural & tribal people live below the poverty line (BPL) and they struggle for their everyday needs.

2. Education: The literacy rate in Jharkhand is merely 66.4% ( Male: 76.8 %, Female: 52.0 %).

3. Reduced Agricultural Output: 78% of the total population live in rural areas, largely dependent only on agriculture and allied activities. But it is not considered as profitable due to reduced agricultural output and low price of the produce.

4. Environment: Unscientific mining has caused widespread environmental degradation, and Pollution is growing day by day.

5. Water & Sanitation: More than 70% of habitations do not have safe drinking water as the source contains Fluoride, Arsenic & Iron. Only around 2% of the rural households have closed drainage facility.

With an aim to improve the lives of the poor, WWY is working in Jharkhand on poverty reduction (through sustainable livelihood promotion), Nutrition & Food Security, Education and Green & Renewable Energy for ensuring sustainable development. The women and youth are the primary target group. Core programs of WWY are:

1. Zero Poverty trough Promotion of Sustainable Livelihood: – to help the poor to come out of poverty through sustainable livelihood prototypes.
2. Nutrition Garden for Anemia Control and Food Security – to fight poverty, to address malnutrition and anemia issues in rural/tribal women and children (or even their families).
3. Every girl in School: – to educate & empower poor girl children by educating them until they secure their college degree.
4. Youth & Culture Projects: – i) to empower ‘Youth to the Quality Youth’ and, ii) to preserve and promote ‘tradition & culture’.
5. Promotion of Green & Renewable Energy: – Renewable energy is a solution to our environmental problems. So, for sustainability, our aim is to educate and aware of the community to preserve and use natural resources in a way that promotes their continuation in the future.
